How my journey began

I could write a book about the positive role running has played in my life, but I’ll stick to a short essay here on my running journey and what it means for you.

I started running in middle school and joined the Cross Country Team when I realized that cheerleading probably wasn’t an option due to my lack of coordination. I ran Cross Country and Track throughout high school and was the captain of both teams my Senior Year. I was never the best runner, but I took training seriously and tried really hard.

In college, I ran casually to cope with stress and to ward off the “freshman 15”. Post college, I truly found my passion for running while living and working New York City. For the first time, I had a lot of alone time and wanted found running was a great way to explore the city. One weekend morning, I decided to run from my Upper East Side apartment to the Brooklyn Bridge and back. I’m not sure if I have ever ran more than 6 miles, but that day I ran 10 miles and it was unforgettable.

Shortly after, I signed up for my first half marathon. I ran several more half marathons and then moved to Chicago and ran 4 marathons in the decade that followed. This is when I learned how to train, eat right, get enough sleep, and cross train to prevent injury and run my best. I also became faster than I ever was in high school.

I had my daughter in 2019 and becoming a mom has completely changed my running routine, mentality, and priorities. Shortly after having her, I learned I’ve developed mild early-onset arthritis in my knees which has slowed me down significantly. For anyone that says “running ruins your body” please note that my orthopedic doctor insists mine in not due to running, but something that unfortunately happens to some people.

In the past three years, I’ve learned to enjoy running fewer miles, but more quality miles at a slower pace. I’ve found cross training activities that make me stronger and have learned how fun it is to help others with their running goals.

I recently earned my USATF (United States of American Track and Field) Run Coaching Certificate as well as the IHSA (Illinois High School Association) Coaching Certificate that allows me to coach youth and high school level athletes.

What does all of this mean for YOU? It means I’m not your typical running coach. I know what it is like to experience set backs, I understand when work and/or parenting impact your time to train, and I can relate to not being the best or the fastest, but will help you see how hard work can help you become better than you ever imaged.

What are my specialties and areas of focus?
-I focus on female athletes only at this time.
-Getting you out the door to run regularly.
-Helping you train for your first race.
-Working through come backs (from injury, a break, postpartum, etc.)
-Taking your running to the next level.
-The mental aspect of running.
-And so much more! I’ve been running regularly for over 20 years and have accumulated a lot of wisdom to share.
